It has 4 elastic bands inside, and therefore holds up to 4 notebook inserts. The leather is tanned in a slow, natural process without using chromium dyes, and therefore will develop a unique patina over time. As you use and grow with your journal, the leather will become more shiny and pick up dents and scratches from your use of it. As it ages, the leather will gain character based on your care of it. If you want less natural patina, we recommend storing it in a carrying bag to prevent exposure to elements that could affect it. Conditioning with leather balm will refresh and hydrate the leather, and it is recommended to do so at least once a year. If done more regularly, this may also speed up patina. This time frame is also dependent on how often it is used - the oils in your skin will also work to hydrate the leather somewhat, so if handled more regularly, it may not need to be treated as often. We recommend treating leather products with leather balm at least once a year to maintain hydration - time may also vary based on use, as the oils in your hands also soak into the leather and keep it hydrated. If treated more regularly, the patina process may be sped up.
This leather does not do well when exposed to liquids. We recommend reducing exposure to water as much as possible. If exposed to liquids, the product should stay in good shape as long as it is dried properly in its original shape, however there may be cosmetic differences in appearance of the leather such as dark spots where liquid was spilled.
